  Periodicals of the IMA

The Journal of the Islamic Medical Association of South Africa (JIMASA) represents the efforts of health/research workers on health/medical issues. JIMASA aims to provide an Islamic perspective on science and the practice of the Health Sciences and at the same time enable Muslim Health Professionals to develop the skill of effectively communicating their understanding and clinical practice of the health sciences.

We also publish the proceedings of our Annual Convention. This publication provides useful opportunities for practitioners to reflect on their work in a format that is less technical and specialist in nature. Our 26th Annual Convention was guided by the theme ''Paradigms in Health Care" and yielded a refreshing collection of talks and papers from IMA members and invited guests.

Dr AHMED ELKADI: His Thoughts and Research:

A Collection of his Research Papers and Talks

This publication commemorating the 25th anniversary of the IMA, is a fitting tribute to the contribution of a man with a vision, a man who dedicated his life to the promotion of Islamic Medicine. During his first visit to South Africa in 1979 he inspired local health workers, in the words of Dr GM Hoosen, who accompanied him during his visit, "...and wherever we went, we left behind groups who were convinced beyond a shadow of doubt that the IMA ought to be established.."

In one of his papers, Contemporary Definition of Islamic Medicine, he states in his opening remarks: "Islamic Medicine a medical science that is in full submission to the Will of Allah (SWT)...".  He provides  the criteria to support its claim to a science: submission to Islamic teachings and ethics; logical in its practices; comprehensive in its concerns and excellent and distinguished.
